Valves such as water meters, stopcocks, full-way valves, pillar taps, bibcocks, ball valves and non-return valves are all used when installing a cold water supply system. The plumber needs to understand the working principles of the various valves so that he/she can install them correctly. Most of these valves assist with the switching off of a water supply, and thus are critical when it comes to the maintenance of a cold water supply system.
